Another reason to cheer for Tesla owners is the return of the long-gone regen adjustment via an OTA update. When Tesla decided that drivers shouldn’t be tinkering with the regen’s strength, the settings were removed in the year 2020. Back then, the company locked users out of the menu and turned the regenerative braking up to its highest setting.
The adjustable regenerative brake system is back, much like the round steering wheel that has returned to the Tesla Model S and Model X (despite the fact that the yoke has returned with a vengeance). The business acknowledged that it will be included in the most recent OTA upgrade for Tesla automobiles.
What makes this such a big deal? Regen braking is undoubtedly one of the smartest features of electric vehicles. The range of an electric vehicle is increased by using the electric motor to recycle a portion of the energy as the vehicle slows down. The numbers aren’t large, but they can occasionally add a few miles.
Regen can be harmful in some circumstances, which is why many people feel unsafe using it entirely while driving in the snow or on slick surfaces.
Manufacturers provide the ability to modify the strength, from nothing to one-pedal driving where the electrical motors can slow the automobile down to a complete stop, because in the worst event, the vehicle might become unmanageable.
In 2020, Tesla came to the conclusion that driving its cars with the regen on “high” was the most effective method. “Standard” and “low” are the new options, with the latter restricting the regen and enabling coasting. Regen cannot be completely turned off, though, and it always leads the automobile to slow down immediately as the driver releases the throttle.
For rookie EV drivers who have lived their entire lives driving legacy vehicles, regenerative braking might be difficult to adjust to. It makes perfect sense to be able to change it, and doing so eases the learning curve. Regen is just not to everyone’s taste, and some will claim that it is dangerous to use it in the snow; fortunately, they now have the choice of turning it all the way down.
Is this again another retreat by Tesla? Next, what? Are the parking sensors coming back, and will LiDAR eventually make a comeback? For the time being, Tesla keeps everyone in the dark regarding the rates for the upcoming week as well as which features are going away and which are coming back.
