The proposed location for Enel North America’s 3-gigawatt (GW) solar panel & cell facility is Oklahoma.
The facility, that Enel revealed in November of last year, would be among the biggest in the US for the production of solar cells, and Enel says it eventually intends on doubling its capacity to 6 GW.
Enel’s US solar production affiliate 3Sun USA’s CEO, Giovanni Bertolino, issued the following statement:
“We think Oklahoma is the most suitable contender, and we are excited about the idea of expanding our presence there,” the statement continued.
With a $3 billion array of wind energy projects in the state, Enel North America is already maintaining a presence in Oklahoma City.
In a statement, Governor Kevin Stitt (R-OK) stated that Oklahoma was “on the one-yard line to secure one of the largest economic growth deals in our state’s history alongside Enel, an organisation that has actively engaged in the state of Oklahoma for over a decade.”
According to the Journal Record, an Oklahoma City news source, Enel North America is “eying the Tulsa Port of Inola as a possible location for the plant” and Stitt is pleading with state legislators to support an incentive package.
The plant will produce bifacial heterojunction (HJT) cells, that combine features of traditional crystal solar cells with thin-film solar cells, beginning in late 2024. More than 1,500 employment are anticipated to be created by the factory.
This is the most significant US solar production announcement since the United States Inflation Reduction Act was passed.
In November, Enrico Viale, president of Enel North America, said:
The Inflation Reduction Act has lately helped our ambitions to produce solar power systems in the US, ushering in a new era of energy produced in America.
