The Inflation Reduction Act helps South Korean Manufacturers of EV Batteries

The US Inflation Reduction Act, which restricts subsidies to vehicles made in the United States, is anticipated to benefit a total of 22 EV models. Eleven of the models have LG Energy Solution batteries, four have Samsung SDI batteries, and two have SK On batteries.

Six GM vehicles, including the Cadillac Lyriq, and three Ford vehicles, which includes the Mustang Mach-E, Lincoln Aviator, and Chrysler Pacifica, are among the 11 cars featuring LG Energy Solution solutions.

Eight meet the requirements for the entire $7,500 incentive since they have American-made batteries. The additional three are Ford models that have battery cells made in Poland, making them eligible for half of the US$3,750 incentive. The Jeep Grand Cherokee as well as Wrangler, Ford Escape, along with Lincoln Corsair, that include Samsung SDI batteries made in Hungary, all receive the same level of subsidy.

Because four of these five, comprising Models 3 and Y, are powered by American-made Panasonic batteries, they will be eligible for the full subsidy. The two models made up 65 percent of the EV market in the United States during the initial quarter of this year.

The Model 3 Standard, that includes CATL batteries and will get a 50% subsidy, is the last. A source in the business claimed that “CATL fulfilled the requirements by providing with minerals acquired by Tesla,” adding that “The act’s goal is to hold China at bay, however it appears that the US made a mistake.”
