The main goal of XPeng’s new SEPA 2.0 EV platform, which was just unveiled, is to reduce expenses. By cutting the cost of integrating advanced driver assistance systems by 70%, the Smart electric Platform architecture 2.0, as it is officially known, should reduce the R&D cycle for new models by 20%. It is also asserted that installing an infotainment system is 85% less expensive.
Similar to Tesla’s strategy starting in 2020, the new SEPA 2.0 uses die-casting technology for both the front and rear featuring integrated aluminium. Considering that the platform can support cars with wheelbases ranging 1,800mm and 3,200mm, it is conceivable to build everything from little hatchbacks to large pickup trucks.
The platform also makes use of Cell Integrated Body, which keeps the battery inside the body of the vehicle and increases security and driving performance while freeing up interior space.
Along with the aforementioned characteristics, XPeng’s new platform guarantees Xmart OS, the company’s infotainment system, for every XPeng owner, along with voice assistant and compatibility for multi-sensor software. Another 50% of the voice assistant’s R&D costs are saved.
The forthcoming G6 coupe SUV will be unveiled at this year’s Shanghai car show as the first vehicle to be constructed on the SEPA 2.0 platform. Eighty percent of the structural elements for each SEPA 2.0 model are present in the model.
