As part of the most recent software update from the automaker, Tesla Supercharger places are now included in Rivian’s navigation system. Tesla finally opened the first several Supercharger stations in the US last month to non-Tesla electric vehicles after years of conjecture and planning. On a few Supercharger stations, Tesla is incorporating what it calls the Magic Dock as a new charging dock for its connector.
While it functions as a standard charging dock for the Tesla connector when a Tesla vehicle is charging, a non-Tesla electric vehicle (EV) can unlock the Magic Dock and convert it into a CCS adapter by using the Tesla mobile app.
Since many people believe Tesla’s Supercharger network to be the greatest DC fast-charging infrastructure in the US, it will be a game changer for owners of electric vehicles. Only a handful stations currently feature this Magic Dock, though.
Several automakers are already benefiting from this, despite the fact that it is just in its early stages.
Rivian has already made available a new software update that incorporates these Supercharger sites with Magic Dock in their navigation system. Rivian and Tesla have extremely comparable charging strategies.
As previously mentioned, Rivian uses its own Adventure Charging network under the Rivian brand, whereas the majority of other manufacturers depend on third-party networks. Even so, Rivian has yet to fully install its own network, with only a couple dozen stations up and running.
Because of this, Rivian owners must still rely on third-party networks, but the addition of Tesla’s Supercharger network will be beneficial as more stations adopt the Magic Dock.
