The newest iteration of the BMW 5 Series, which will also be available in a fully electric form known as the BMW i5, will soon be unveiled. The automaker’s CEO, Oliver Zipse, gave some additional information on the upcoming 5 Series.
The sedan’s presentation will take place in the fall, specifically in the month of October. Given the popularity of the BMW i4 M50, which happened to be the best-selling BMW M vehicle in the world in 2022, Zipse claimed that the electric model will also be sold in a M variant.
The new 5 Series will be able to rely on the new 8.5 version of the iDrive infotainment system, of which the German automaker has released some preliminary information. According to BMW, the Touring model of the new 5 Series will still be available and enjoy solid sales, particularly in Europe.
The top representative for the German manufacturer then revealed that an electric version of the new 5 Series Touring will also be available; this model will, however, make its debut in the spring of 2024. Speaking of additional powertrain options, the 2018 BMW 5 Series will also be available in Plug-in and Mild Hybrid models for gasoline and diesel. The BMW facility in Dingolfing will be the only place where the new model is manufactured.
Knowledge We Have
Thanks to the appearance of certain spy images, we have learned a little bit about the design of the next BMW 5 Series, including the Touring and electrified versions, numerous times. We can already see from the images that have surfaced that the appearance will be a gradual improvement over the current one.
The headlights will be thinner than they are now, but they won’t have two levels like some of the newest models from the German manufacturer. Also, the size of the twin kidney won’t increase substantially. But inside, we’ll see the renowned BMW Curved Display, which houses the panels for the infotainment system itself and the instrumentation.
Although specifics about the electric cars’ powertrains are not yet available, it’s probable that the German company will make use of the components now found in the BMW i4. Further details might come out given that the premiere is still a few months away.
