With the Most Recent OTA Update, Rivian R1S and R1T Get New Capabilities

When done correctly, OTA updates for electric automobiles are incredibly beautiful. Rvian has just updated both of its electric vehicles, the R1S and R1T, with a new software build (2023.06.02). Together with the customary bug repairs, the company has included some fresh comfort and security enhancements.

Owners of the R1S and R1T reported that the performance of the key fob was erratic. However, the functionality of the good old key fob’s proximity lock and unlock has been significantly enhanced. The driver will receive a notification on a display when the key fob’s battery needs to be replaced, which is a neat feature but not a significant gain.

Significant Update

The decision to have Google power the sat nav search function is the greater and more significant enhancement. When the automobile detects that it is parked close to the destination, the navigation will now immediately stop providing guidance. Moreover, switching between charging status pins on the map and seeing charger information are now also possible.

In the Rivian R1S and R1T, tapping the stalk twice activates the Highway Assist system, and the activation is now considerably faster—it reportedly just takes one second. Moreover, the hands-off warning period has been extended from 10 to 20 seconds.

Additional minor updates include showing the right radio frequency and adding a progress indicator for podcasts and audiobooks. The front camera image has also been improved so that drivers can evaluate the distance between the vehicle and an obstruction more accurately.

Rivian is honouring its commitment to continuously update and improve its vehicles despite numerous setbacks with the introduction of the R1S and R1T, as well as despite significantly reduced manufacturing quantities and prolonged waiting times for the trucks. The company regularly releases software updates to ensure that its cars get better over time.

One of the most notable changes recently is the addition of a Snow Mode, in which the vehicle automatically detects slick conditions and modifies regen braking and throttle response for a more comfortable driving experience. The best possible nightly snooze in the truck is made possible by the Camp Mode, which enables the vehicle to level up automatically.
