The electric pickup truck is beginning to seem more polished as production draws near, and a Tesla Cybertruck prototype has been sighted with a new black tonneau cover.
Tesla has created a fleet of beta Cybertruck prototypes, as we previously reported, to test before the start of production this summer. We started seeing those Cybertruck prototypes in California during the past few weeks.
Every time we see a new prototype, we try to find any new design elements that might make it into the final product, such as a redesigned front end, a gigantic wiper that recently made a comeback, or the jacked-up air suspension that was recently observed.
The Cybertruck’s top is now clearly visible in a new sighting, this time from above, and it looks to have a new black tonneau cover. This Tesla Cybertruck prototype appears to be darker than others previously observed, and many prior Tesla Cybertruck prototypes were without a bed cover. It might be the one used in manufacturing.
The automatic retracting tonneau cover is designed to be strong enough for someone to be able to stand on.
Moreover, it should have solar cells, or at the very least offer the option for solar cells.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, shocked many when he revealed that the company’s new electric pickup truck will have a solar roof option that will add 15 miles of range every day after the Cybertruck was introduced.
The solar cells will be integrated inside the retractable tonneau cover, according to a later patent application by Tesla. Although Tesla just stated that it plans to start producing the Cybertruck this summer, we shouldn’t anticipate any meaningful deliveries until 2024, when the carmaker will ramp up manufacturing.
