Electric automobiles will be the primary focus of Hyundai Motor, SAIC Motor, BYD, and Tata Motors. Maruti Suzuki, a unit of Suzuki Motor Corp. in India, and Toyota Motor are expected to demonstrate hybrid and hydrogen fuel cell vehicle technologies as well.
The push for clean cars and trucks comes at a time when the Indian government wants to cut emissions and pollution in major cities and cut its oil import bill at the same time. Incentives worth millions of dollars are being offered to businesses in India to build electric vehicles (EVs) and their components locally.
Before the final numbers for the year are released, a forecast by S&P Global Mobility predicts that India will surpass Japan in 2022 to become the third-largest market for light vehicles, including passenger cars, in the world. In 2022, India’s industry-wide sales were estimated to rise by 23% to 4.4 million vehicles.
Even though the market share of electric vehicles is growing, it still falls far short of the government’s lofty goal of 30 percent by 2030. Electric vehicles make up less than 1 percent of all car sales in the country.
According to industry data, electric two-wheelers have dominated EV sales in India, accounting for 62% of all EVs sold in the first nine months of the current fiscal year. Analysts predict that sales of electric scooters will account for more than 5% of all scooter and motorcycle sales in India this fiscal year.
The auto show will feature electric mobility start-ups like Greaves Cotton, Matter Motorworks, Tork Motors, and Omega Seiki Mobility, which are expected to display e-scooters, “last-mile” delivery vehicles, and people carriers, in addition to well-known names in the industry.
About Auto Expo 2023
At the Auto Expo 2023, Build Your Dreams (BYD) introduced the BYD Seal electric vehicle. The company will offer more models as a result of the new vehicle’s addition.
It is important to note that the Seal is the third model in the brand’s lineup in India, alongside the BYD Atto 3 and BYD e6 models.
The Ocean X concept that the company presented in 2021 serves as inspiration for the new design of the BYD Seal sedan. The car has a radical design, including split headlights and LED daytime running lights (DRLs) in the shape of boomerangs and an all-glass roof that looks like a couple. A full-width LED light bar gives the BYD Seal EV a wide appearance at the rear.
The electric sedan is expected to be introduced by the company in the second quarter, with deliveries beginning in October. In addition, to strengthen its position in the market, there are current plans to introduce several additional models to the country.
