Electric vehicles are used in that amount so the vehicle needs to charge every 5 hours. But I think this may become a hard task for California Residents because according to the Weather forecast there is a prediction that the Weather will be so hot or the temperature will be higher than the usual temperature.
Due to this situation, the weather team apply a Flex Alert on Wednesday in which they clearly restrict to use of the air-conditioner and conserved energy when possible to avoid putting extra pressure on California’s already strained power grid. Not even this ISO also instructs EV users to charge their EVs before 4 p.m. In short, the ISO has cleared the limit on using air conditioners and any other major appliances which use more energy during peak hours
In its bulletin, the California Independent System Operator specifically instructs residents to “avoid charging electric vehicles while the Flex Alert is in effect. The whole matter started on Friday 31st August when the hot weather touched the peak of the red alert. Here let me clear that the ISO “manages the flow of electricity across the high-voltage, long-distance transmission lines delivering power to the state’s three investor-owned utilities,”. According to the organization’s website, the team requested to save or conserve energy or electricity as much as possible from 4 p.m to 9 p.m.
Talking about the EVs charging so the main reason to stop charging over 4 p.m is that the EVs take more than 5-9 hours to charge which may be the main reason for the extra load on the electricity supply. Not even this the ISO has demanded to stop charging your EVs over Labor Day. Things are not stopped here the organization has also warned that the Flex Alert maybe increase till 6 Sep 2022 so be prepared for this and the announcement comes on the heels of California banning the sale of internal-combustion cars by 2035.
I think the restrictions on charging EVs seem quite hypocritical due to the ban on fossil fuel vehicles. Sometimes it feels like we stop using fuels or hybrid and start using EVs but I think everything has its own advantages as well as disadvantages. For suppose EVs are good for the environment situational but they consume lots of electricity and so many problems are related to the charging as well. but a strategic power conservation plan for this weekend and a shift to EV-only sales 13 years from now aren’t totally related.
